A Father's Day Poem by Tyrese Gibson

On this day, we as fathers are celebrated around the world...

I am more than just a man.. I am a father.
A boy is excited about the opportunity to be a dad.
A father is more focused on the "Responsibility" of being a father.

As a father it is a responsibility to create the standards in our kids' lives,  I am not just semen. I love you, and you love me and in our family we created "we" in our children...

I am power, I am intelligence, I am education, I am integrity, I am God fearing spirituality,  I am consistent...
As a father, sometimes I have to be away. I am constantly in the field hunting for my family's survival.
I am king therefore you are my queen. President Obama has created a new standard and removed every excuse a black man could ever have of NOT being a father...
I am more than I appear to be, I am more than just a man.
I....AM...A...FATHER!!

Fathers... Even though it seems like your effort is sometimes overlooked, God is watching and he knows your heart.

To all of the REAL FATHERS around the world..
Through good, bad or ugly relationships with the mother...
If you are NOT there for your kids, it is ONLY the kids that suffer in the end.
Take a stand and do any means necessary to be a part of your kids lives.

God knows your heart... God bless all FATHERS around the WORLD for Father's Day!

Salute!!

  1. Nice work, I just had a situation today at my son's school pick-nick, where a father had his daughters and the whole time he was on the phone texting & stuff and the girls just seating there looking sad. Twenty minutes later they left. I felt for those kids, but when that is what you grow up with what do you do. MoPoDC

  7. I love it. Tyrese you are a complete inspiration to many people. I hope that this poem not inspired great father to continue being great, but for other fathers to have a relationship with their children. Love them like daddy is suppose to. And be there for them. You may have changed a child's life for the good because of this poem.

  18. I read this poem and cried. I am a single mother of four girls and their father is not apart of their lives,I lost mine 3 yrs ago and we were very close. To me a father is the only one that can give you a hug and make the world feel as if it stood still, the only person that can hold your hand and make you feel as big as a mountain, they give you this grate love no one else can and I believe it is a close reflection of our FATHER in heaven! God is so good and all the time God is good, but in the between moments here on earth he lends us our fathers... God bless you! I follow you on twitter and so glad I did... (Lovelylips86)

  27. This is beautiful. My mom has 3 children and I am the one fortunate enough to have my father in my life. I love him so much, but what makes me love him even more is I have a brother who is 15 years younger than me and his father stepped out when he was 3 months old. My lil bro tries to keep in contact with him, will call him and leave messages only to have them returned more than a month later after my mom has reminded his father countless times to call his son. Well when I bring my brother to my dadshouse or my grandparents house, my father takes him under his wing. They fix my car together and spend time with one another. My dad remembers him on Christmas and on his b-day. I love my father so much more because I've helped mymom raise my little brother and that boy means more to me than life itself. I work very hard to make sure he's happy and so does my mom. So to have my father give some of his time to a child that is not his own is wonderful to me. Thank you for writing this.

  28. That's a great poem Tyrese...I thank God for the great father He gave me. I Couldn't ask for more. And for all the fathers out there who bring the food to the table, the ones that are willing to do anything for their children...I congratulate you. My respect goes to you all.

  36. a father is any man that contributes all that he has whether its love, time, money, or space, to make sure a child is able to live his or her life to the fullest. this is a quality that not all men posse but our men are standing up and taking their place as fathers. Tyrese, it is men like you that cherish this responsibility that are role models for our men.

  40. I have two boys in which their father's are not active in their lives.. Your poem was So true, so real, but yet, it will be taking very lightly by a lot of dads/fathers. Seriously... Most men will give semen to whom EVER, but when it comes to responsibility, they disappear.. Sadly to say but it's true. If only two father's/dads take heed to what you're written. You've helped someone, and your poem was not in vain. Stay Strong and focus Ty...

This brings me to think of my own because he always made sure my brothers && I had the best.. whether it was education or clothes or whatever..he made sure we didnt go without..my dad came from nothing in nigeria.. 17 years old stepping foot into america with one bag && his mind.. he always wanted us to want for nothing.. 5 kids he wanted to give the world to..&& I thank God fot my daddy.. For me being so blessed to have a dad like him.. Happy fathers day to all the real fathers out there.. && to you tyrese God bless you in all you do.. Is love for everybody? Why is it so hard to find? And why can’t everybody find it? Can ur soul mate be more then one person??? Well i don’t know the answers to those questions. I don’t even know if those questions can be answered. But i feel your’ll always know when the times right. It’s very important to know that love comes with a lot of ups and downs, but true love will over come anything…

READERS: Tyrese's HOW TO GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY is not a joke!!!He began with God and ended with God...and the content of the prayer and "LISTENING TO GOD'S MESSAGES" parts can only be written by someone who has a genuine relationship with God and who's willing to be molded by GOD. The chapters of the book are real challenging messages, speaking to those who are willing to listen & apply. I've read it myself and was tremendously blessed by it!!! Reviews testify that anyone will or can be blessed, literate, illeterate - even a lawyer with a PhD was challenged and hers was one of the nicest reviews for me because I'm an academic...
    I SO PROUD OF YOU, TYRESE...Psalm 91 for you, Day & Night...God bless you...Muah!!!

  49. This has tears running down my face because I have a 5 year old son who has a Dad full of excuses. I am the woman who tries to think outside myself because in the end I know they need each other. It is just hard to watch my son sit at the bottom of stairs crying himself to sleep because his dad never showed. I pray for his dad and I sacrifice my dignity to give him chances, but in the end his priorities are misguided. He is missing out on knowing the greatest person he helped create. I would ask what I can do, but frankly I have run out of patience and find myself letting his decisions run their course. On the other hand, these words give me hope.

This poem would be a must read for him to know the real role of a father..Why can't men understand that their kids need them, especially daughters? That is a know fact...Thank you LORD for MEN like Tyrese who has a heart of gold and great inspiration to others...Keep being an inspiration and an encouragement and just maybe the world would be a better place... As we continue to pray and hold on to just a little bit of hope!!!!

  69. Thank you for not being a statistic and breaking the cycle. I unfortunately am in a situation with a person who is all the above. He was happy about the pregnancy but once our daughter arrived we started having issues when it came time to be responsible. After he left when getting caught cheating, he also stopped even trying to be a good father.I tried to encourage him having a relationship with our child no drama because she is all that mattered. The worst thing is trying to help your child see its not their fault and making them feel complete when the see others fathers with their daughters....I know I will never understand how easy it is to walk away but I want to say thank-you and HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO A REAL MAN OF SUBSTANCE!

  70. TYRESE you have been blessed to see the value in something that has lost it's shine. Blessed with the voice of reason, that is far beyond mine. Given a smile that elluminates the darkest region, and willing to spread gospel for all good reasons.Willing to challange all road blocks that form, by doing things thats where besides the norm. I pray you find your equal.. and that she is not far, just keep god in your heart, and she will know where you are.

How can a suppose to be real man lay his down every night not knowing if his child ate, is he sick, do he have a place to lay his head. Good my child is my heart and I will do anything for him cause he missing out anything. I make sure he plays any sport he wants and I male it to school event I am superwoman. His dad is in for a rude awakening I have a big surprise coming to him. Single moms keep loving your kids and doing the best you can God always makes a way SheKnowSheBadL

  108. Tyrese this poem and photos is beautiful. Raising 3 children w/o their father wasnt easy. My natural father passed when I was a little girl. Seeing my mother struggle as a single parent made me want to make better choices, however I found myself in the same spiral until I discovered the LOVE of my heavenly father. He has shown me continuously his unconditional love even when I didnt deserve it.

There is no Greater love than the "LOVE OF THE FATHER".

    Happy Fathers Day

  116. Thank for the poem, Tyrese. Unfortunately, there are plenty of GREAT dads this day who WANT to be invovled with their children but are PREVENTED by a corrupt family court system and other systems. I had an ugly custody battle myself and got full custody without an attorney. Now I am a children's and fathers' advocate. www.HowIGotCustody.org is where I speak about the best chance a father has to be involved in a child's life and the systems that want to stop fathers.

Thank you for being a real man and telling the truth of what a real father does and not just an obligation.

  119. I am in love with your statements about fatherhood -- but am MORE IN LOVE with your actions of fatherhood. God is always watching -- as you mention -- and many of us on earth are, as well. We salute you Mr. Gibson and your beautiful daughter.

  126. I'm really glad you fought for her. I remember reading about that struggle and was moved by a dad wanting to be in the life of his child. My youngest son doesn't have that (blogged about it today). Maybe one day soon I'll meet some one who'll make that better for him.

  127. I really love this poem. And what makes this poem so special is that every dad in the world has the opportunity to be a dad every day. I appologize for those who does not have that wonderful opportunity.
This is very encouraging Tyrese. You and your daugter have beautiful pictures. Kids grow up so fast. Enjoy every moment. Can't wait to read your book.
